About Us

Our History

John Ball, our founder, planned on retiring in 1989 after 32 years with Albert Transportation. However, the construction of the new Al-Pac Pulpmill required gravel, roadbuilding, maintenance, and other services. These initatives provided a new challenge for John Ball's experience. Being one of first local contractors to participate in the construction of the $1.4 Billion Pulpmill project in 1991, the company has continued to grow ever since.

JLG Ball Enterprises was founded in 1989 and remains a family owned and operated business.

Corporate Profile

JLG Ball is a leading provider of quality aggregate and site services in Alberta. We pride ourselves on not only meeting but exceeding the needs of our clientele.

Founded in 1989, the company has grown strategically over the last 24 years, from its origins of meeting local need to the current position where JLG meets the needs of clientele throughout the province. The company has been one of the longest standing contractors with the Alberta Pacific Pulp mill providing site services, non-hazardous waste removal, underground excavations and any new civil capital projects.

JLG Ball Aggregate division has operating locations in 4 different municipalities in Alberta including Athabasca, Thorhild, Smoky Lake and Rocky View. Additionally, our client base extends as far as Wood Buffalo and Cochrane. Many of our clients view us as a preferred supplier of aggregate crushed to government specifications. We are able to fill needs of different sizes with a range of projects from 1,000 to 1,000,000 tonnes. Additionally our gravel pit development activities place us strategically throughout the province.

JLG Ball employs approximately 50 full time staff year round and owns an inventory of 60 pieces of heavy equipment including a mid-size gravel crusher. We pride ourselves on hiring personnel from the areas that our operations are located in. We currently have staff living in Smoky Lake, Thorhild, Athabasca, Lac La Biche and Westlock Counties.

Our president, Lisa Ball, has been with the company from the first day. Lisa's experience started in the construction business as an equipment operator working on road construction equipment. Her experience then broadened to underground excavations and pipeline servicing. Lisa's negotiation skills have created success in business as she has negotiated everything from purchasing the company's equipment to successfully bidding on multimillion dollar projects.

The company is financially stable with a strong balance sheet that provides stakeholders the assurance that it can maintain stability to deliver on its commitments. This stability allows JLG to not only grow internally, but to also grow the economies of the areas that we affect. As an aggregate supplier, when product is successfully marketed, many people prosper, including trucking companies, fuel and part suppliers as well as the local government.

The strategic vision for JLG Ball is to become:

Alberta's leading Aggregate and Site Services Supplier.

As such JLG Ball is dedicated to hiring and retaining quality staff, improving relationships with clients and growing our communities through strong economic development.

                Safety

Safety has always played a major role in our company, as we have had a loss control program in place since 1993. We have had our Certificate of Recognition with the Alberta Construction Safety Assoc. since 1996, and adhere strictly to all industry safety codes as well as any on-site safety regulations. JLG Ball Enterprises is also a partner in the Reduction of Injury Program with the Workers' Compensation Board. We also work closely with Alberta Environment to ensure that high standards of environmental protection are upheld on our job sites. For example, our gravel pits are regularly monitored for both environmental control and safety. As a company, we are very proud of our employees and our safety record.
